Dikili Noborder Camp is Over
Monday,September 9th, 2008
The first Noborder camp in Turkey which
started on the 3rd of September has ended up with future plans and with the created network of solidarity.
Many activists from many countries shared experience and made plans for the coming process during these 5 days.
Activists from Russia, Avustria,
Germany, Greece, France, Israel, Canada, Roumania, Belarus, Belgium, Sweden, England and Poland
joined the camp. There were many workshops and presantations about the practises of authorities at borders,
and refugee problems. The first workshop was a chat about the perception of borders, conditions of refugees in
Turkey and how the camp come true.
The situation of refugees and the practises at borders of Poland and Israel
were discussed in the workshops which was organized by activists from these countries.
In general, activists from many countries shared information and experience and also there were projection of
documentaries and movies and concerts at nights. Besides there was a performance on the public beach in memory
of the drowning refugees in Aegean. The number of the drowned and lost refugees was written
on the beach with red colored stones. Interest of local people in this performance was really pleasing.
Furthermore an exhibition called "border is everywhere" was shown during the camp in the town center.
The local police's concern and suppression was also excessive.
We are happy to finish the camp in spite of
the suppression of police which was in guise of asking for identity and passport numbers.
The first Noborder camp on this soil was an important step for the cooperation
of people who fight for the refugee rights and fight against the borders and we decided to make this solidarity continuous.
We, who come together by defeating many borders, are saying that we will go on this struggle and we are calling you for the
next Noborder camps.

A Press Release was Made for Dikili No Border Camp
Yesterday (25th August) a press release was made on the
Alsancak Kıbrıs Şehitleri Street for Dikili No Border Camp 2008.
The attention of the press and the people passing by to the press release
was considerably good.
The attention of the people was probably to the activists putting themselves in borders with cords.
While making the press release ,we had our posters, handouts and a
punkart on which in
10 different languages 'No Borders!' was written
After the press release we got out by cutting the cords into peaces
and shouting our slogan: 'No borders! Freedom for all!'.
While making the press release some of our Australian and Russian activist
friends were also among us. With the spirit of action, we made all the preparations with them who came beyond
the borders and joined us.
The fact that the camp would pass with the spirit of the solidarity was considerably satisfactory.

OUR PRESS RELEASE TEXT
Political, economic and ecological developments in the world
show that population movements will increasingly continue.
The wealth gulf which deepens among the North and South countries,
the occupation of countries and civil wars, ethnic and political conflicts increasing in different regions and the
ecological crisis that increasingly deepens, force thousands of people to leave their hometowns.
This situation put all countries into a position that
either take immmigrants or give immigrants or else implement both of them. These immigrations' movement is mainly
from poor to rich, in other words from east to the west or from South to North.
Our country is in a crossing line position that is occasionaly
used for the cited immigration directions. This actually shows that we are not unfamiliar
with this tragedy that is going on while the immigrants aimed for the hope.
From 1994 till now (August 2008) in Aegean Sea 435 people died and 461 was lost.
According to the datas reflected to the press only in 2007, 96 people died and 116 was lost in the accidents that happened
in Aegean Sea.
This tragedy which we have been witnessing,
is just a small part of the events going on and just the visible face of the iceberg.
On the other hand, thousands of people who hit the road to run away
from their poverty are exposed to unlimited violence and discriminated beyond the borders by the governments
which are the guards of the borders.
We organise a 'No Border' camp
- to think about the problems of 'immigration, deportation, displacement, asylum and borders'
in an area where the hope and the solidarity are needed most'
-to search for the ways of stopping the human rights abuses that is going on intensely at the borders
-to compose a network of experience, knowledge and communication
with the attendance of volunteers coming from nearly 15 countries and
we call for the attendance of every sensitive person in and out of the country for this activity that is being
organised for the first time in our lands.
